Bring a splash of bold red to your garden with NSW Waratah seeds from Mr Fothergill’s. This Australian native shrub can grow up to 3m high, with big, blood-red flowers in tight clusters at the end of its upright stems. Blooming from mid-spring to early summer, the Waratah is one of Australia's most spectacular native plants and makes a stunning cut flower for your home. For gardeners seeking a low-maintenance plant, the NSW Waratah is well-suited for coastal and inland areas with minimal maintenance and will bloom bright red year after year.
Height: grows to 3m tall.
How to grow
Sow your NSW Waratah seeds in warm areas at any time. In colder climates, wait until the danger of frost has passed. Press the seeds into the soil surface, either directly where they are to grow or into seed trays filled with a moist, quality seed-raising mix. Cover very lightly, water, and keep the soil evenly moist.
Apply Mr. Fothergill’s Wildflower Seed Starter Granules to the soil surface for best results.
Place in a warm, shaded position to germinate. Transplant to the final growing position when plants are about 7cm (3”) tall, taking care not to disturb the roots. Grow in full sun or part shade in most soil types. Water in well and then regularly until established, but avoid fertilisers not designed for Australian natives.
Seedlings will emerge in 14-28 days.
