This evergreen, clump-forming plant develops long, rush type stems without a leaf or blade. Its striking, orange and purple-blue flowers, which resemble an exotic bird, are borne on long stems in spring and summer. For best results plant in fertile, well drained soil. Very drought resistant and will tolerate high rainfall and light frost.
Full sun or partial shade using a high slow release nitrogen based fertiliser 2- 3 times per year. Remove damaged or spent leaves regularly. Keep moist in warm weather. Water sparingly in cool weather. Allow to dry out before watering. Excellent in tropical gardens. Flowers and leaf stems are excellent in flower arrangements. Suitable for large containers.
