Grevillea Watermelonice is a self sown selection which came up in the garden of Jan Glazebrook, Brisbane. It is believed to be a seedling of Coconut Ice, but differs in that its flowers are twice the size.
Uses: Growing to 75cm tall with a spread of 1m it is ideally suited to mass plantings or in pots as a feature plant.
Position: Prefers to grow in full sun in well drained soil although can be hardy in other soil types. Will tolerate light frosts.
Watering: Although very drought tolerant, deep watering during extended dry periods will increase vigour and flowering. Mulching during these periods will also retain the mosture, but be careful to keep the area around the trunk free of mulch to avoid collar rot.
Fertilise: Use a Native slow release fertiliser during the growing season.
Pruning: Prune in summer months after flowering to promote a more compact form.
