February in the garden and the nursery:
What to do in the Garden:
- preserve your crops of fruit - jams, drying, pickling, etc
- save seeds for next year’s crop
- keep an eye on your zucchini crop - don’t let an unpicked one become a monster
- liquid fertilize vegetable every two weeks
- be consistent with watering tomatoes - don’t let them dry out as this can affect their ability to absorb calcium, leading to Blossom-end Rot
- large, vigorous trees which are becoming too dominant are best heavily lopped at this time rather than waiting until winter
- dead-head (remove spent blooms) flowering plants as they start to fade as this will encourage more flowers
- spray citrus with eco or pest oil to prevent citrus leaf miner
- Fertilise citrus
